Busy busy busy

My toddler is napping and I should be doing one of a gazillion things on my to-do list. But here I am blogging.

We've been busy, as usual. I had a quick freelance project this weekend, so I spent a lot of free time getting that done. And painting the dining room (still). I got enough walls finished that I could unpack a giant box and put stuff into one of the curio cabinets. Now I have the longest wall of all to finish, and I can unpack some more and get the other cabinet filled. Maybe someday we'll see the top of the dining room table. Here's a before and after of the paint colors. It takes 3 coats to cover the white part.

J has the in-law suite almost completely organized before my parents come in a few weeks. That's been a long process, but we think it looks pretty nice. And cozy. And no, I don't mean so-tight-you-can't-move-around kind of cozy.

S has been doing her usual thing. Lots of talking, lots of running around. We met a new friend at a playgroup, so we had a playdate at Whole Foods this week. We went shopping for furniture and she hung out in her stroller while we checked out 2 giant floors of stuff (including a 90" TV--seriously, what's the point?). We went used car shopping and she got to "drive" a '57 Thunderbird. Mommy bought her a learning tower off of craigslist this weekend, so she's been spending a lot of time playing in the sink. And playing--lots of playing. Usually after she plays in the sink (hence the wet tshirt).

We are very much looking forward to our Thanksgiving week :)

Here's the other bathroom

Our upstairs bathroom wasn't...awful, it just wasn't very inspired/inspiring. The same dirty blue that seems to be everywhere in this house (unless it's lemon yellow, of course), and it looked like drunken monkeys painted the place.

So I cut in, and rolled, and cut in some more, and rolled some more, and then I was done

Much better, no?

Yeah, I think her language is just fine

After our disastrous doctor appointment back in September, I've been keeping closer track than normal on S's language development. I almost wish I could take S back to that whackadoodle and see what she would think now. So far she can say:

thank you (that was new today)
Ah ah ah (her name for Count von Count, because that's what he says)
Nine Nine Nine (mimicking Herman Cain)
No (usually said with emphasis)
Mmmmm (what we do when we eat)
She sometimes says two after I say one.

If you ask what a bear says, she says "roaaaar". If you ask what a sheep says, she says "Ba", very decisively.

She's mimicking big time. She'll wipe the table, "blow her nose" (thanks to Grania for teaching her that one), put silverware away (even when it's dirty, sigh), and many other things I can't keep track of most days. She LOVES to wear our shoes.

And just for fun, here's a picture. She looks like she's going fly fishing.

So, so tired

...and sore.

I don't remember painting taking this much out of me before. J took care of S all day and I did nothing but paint, paint, paint. Ugh. I love painting, but I could not do this for a living.

I got 2 bathrooms painted today, and started the dining room. I only have pictures of one bathroom so far, because I finished the second one after S went to bed. It's not ready for prime time just yet. But tomorrow...

So I give to you, the lemon yellow nightmare that was our guest bathroom:

And after, with a couple of coats of Sherwin-Williams Dutch Tile Blue

Now THAT'S a bathroom I can calmly pee in ;)

S turned 20 months old today. And I haven't taken a single picture. Mostly because she hasn't stopped moving long enough for me to grab a camera...

Happy National Adoption Awareness Month!

I'm going to try and find a way to link ideas for the month on the right side of the blog, mostly so my mom doesn't have to miss out on pictures of S, but for now you get it in a post.

Today's entry is: Start an adoption blog

Well, this blog is about a lot of things (though mostly about S), and there is adoption talk here, so we'll go with that. Hurray!
