Can you stand the cuteness??

S has had quite the exciting and fun weekend. Last week she learned to roll over from her tummy to her back, and this weekend she rolled both ways. She loves being on the floor now!

She is also very, very vocal. We are hearing noises we've never heard before coming out of her. It's a blast to hear (no pun intended ;)

This was a shot as she hung out on her blanket, deciding which way to roll. How cute is that???

Robin pictorial

Forgive me for being a bit obsessed about the robins outside the kitchen. It's not that often that we have nature so close by happening on a daily basis. And they rate they're growing never ceases to amaze me. I thought S was growing up fast!

Hard to see, but here they are with no feathers but all beak, waiting for someone to come feed them.

Now they've added a few feathers and they're all beak. The one on the right I call the alpha baby (though you don't see it here), because it usually stretches its neck the furthest. That's one hungry bird!

My best shot so far. You can see the beginnings of feathers, and the fact that their eyes aren't open yet.

More beaks, and their eyes are open. One was staring in my direction this morning, after momma robin took off. She was hanging out with them early in the AM before she went hunting.

We have good hunting grounds here. Our awesome landscaper gave us topsoil teeming with worms, so these birds will be well fed.

Robin update

The 3rd robin egg wasn't a dud, and there are now 3 scrawny baby robins in the nest in the back yard. I checked them out today and they were all about the open mouths as soon as they heard the slightest noise. I ventured out to take a couple of pictures, and 2 momma robins (or maybe mom and dad? I don't know if the coloring is different) tried out some divebombing routines. I'll post pictures soon.

J is already dreading mowing the back yard. It should be an adventure.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, dads-to-be, and just-like-a-dads out there. A special Happy Father's Day to J, who celebrated his very first one today. And of course, to my daddy. He reminded me that, since I am the oldest, I was the first to make him a father. Quite the accomplishment!

Knitting success!

In this post, I talked about the work-in-progress event my local yarn store was doing. I am proud to announce that I finished all 5 of my registered projects within the deadline! I was one of only 6 people to do so, and I managed to do it with a newborn in the house. Yes, I am quite proud.

My last project was these mittens. I had made them before, but I wanted a pair (for me this time) to match this scarf.

Ta da!
So now that I don't have a deadline, things are progressing more slowly on the knitting/crochet front. I started a dress for S, but it's tedious going. Good thing I have a year to get it done before it fits her. I started crocheting a baby and daddy fish, but they won't be done in time for Father's Day. J doesn't seem to mind. I have a couple of other random projects I started last year that I'm trying to get back to. The mojo will come back soon, I'm sure.

Wild kingdom

We had a nice evening yesterday, so I put S in the Moby and we took a stroll of the grounds ;) As we wandered into the backyard, a bird flew out of an area near our back "deck" (all 3' x 4' of it) and into a nearby tree. It was a robin:

On the "deck", we have this decorative bird feeder. I'm not sure if it was meant to really be used as a bird feeder, or was just supposed to be a piece of rustic decor. In any case, we put it on the deck railing a while back and it's just been there. It sits right next to our (now rusted out) grill. To be quite frank, I'm amazed it has stayed put given some of the storms we've had up here. I noticed recently it looked like there was a nest in it, but I thought that might be part of the rustic charm.

As soon as I saw Momma Robin, however, I got an idea. I went up to the feeder, and lo and behold, there was this:

A robin's egg (in robin's egg blue, no less) and 2 VERY newly hatched robins in a nice little nest. And a mad momma robin still up in the tree.

I'm hoping at least one survives, and that the unhatched egg isn't a dud but just a late bloomer. Momma Robin was on her nest this morning, so all is well so far. I'll try and keep you posted as they grow.

How can you resist this face?

Back off man, I'm sucking on my fingers

What, you've never seen a baby in a swing before?

Daddy thinks this looks like I'm playing the flute. Mommy thinks it looks like I have a mustache *sigh*

Hey look! I have feet!

HI!!!

Roses!

My roses are doing great this year.

I have 3 climbers. 2 are growing up the pillars on the front porch, and one has its own trellis. The blooms are beautiful, and a thoughtful deer comes and eats the dead blooms. How nice...

Gonna be a PW tonight

You have been warned.

And if you don't know what a PW is...well...nevermind...

Pictures to make my mom happy

Poor mom. She checked out my blog early this morning hoping to see updated pictures of her granddaughter. And I had to tell her she was wasting her time. I'm here to rectify the situation.

S and one of her favorite toys (Daddy's too). It's called Octotune, and each leg is a note in an octave in the key of C. Well, high C is a bit flat, but it's still fun. Daddy likes to play random legs for S. Mommy likes to figure out tunes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Posing on a random weekend afternoon. I think J held up Octotune to get S's attention.

With her hands in her mouth--no big surprise. The feet are next. She just noticed she has some.

With one of her (now many) toys. Poor thing only had 3 toys before last weekend. Now she has a few more to drool on.

Love the eyes!

3 months old!

3 months have passed since S was born. I have no idea where the time has gone.
